Arriving in Palmerston North we could virtually see the ferry home back to Nelson. Been on the road for 3 weeks and looking forward to relaxing a little. I'm sure that sounds stupid because you'll no doubt say that we're practically holidaying around the world, but it’s not always comfortable and is most definitely tiring and stressful at times when you're trying to find somewhere to park the van up at 11pm at night in a town you don’t know after driving for 6 hours surviving on the crumbs at the bottom of a cookie bag.
Map/navigation disagreements are common, virtually daily. And when I say disagreement I mean more like "you f***ing said it was that way" - "No I didn't. You're the one that can't read a map you ****" - that sort of disagreement. We've also realised that weather you are the one driving or navigating you will be right...even if you’re wrong - sounds illogical but it feels true. Anyway the point is we're looking forward to staying in one place for a few weeks.
Wandering round Palmerston we noticed that today was the release date for the last Twilight movie. There were 9 seats left so we grabbed 2. I sneaked off downstairs to grab a whopper from burger king before the film kicked off. I was still waiting 10 minutes after ordering and the poor girl was battling fryers and cash registers and angry Palmerstonians from every angle. But I didn’t feel sorry for her, just hungry and keen to get upstairs quickly to get a decent seat for the movie. It must have been my lucky day because they made a mistake with my order and accidently made a double whopper with cheese. I only ordered a standard one. Kerching = whopper upgrade. I literally danced my way out.
If you haven't seen it yet the Twilight film is actually pretty good. MASSIVE TWIST ALERT.
When we left the city I'm sad to say I ran over 2 little birds with the van. Honestly I couldn't do anything to avoid them. They dart out in front of the cars and normally just head skywards if they get to close. One was munching down on some juicy possum roadkill at the time and the second one bounced off the windscreen. I felt really bad about it but we did save a drying out starfish the other week and chucked an injured crayfish back into the sea so I think that kind of balances it out??
