Greeted
by a drizzly wet morning in Rotarua the awesome foursome, as I've now
decided we will call ourselves, we're again on the hot for something to
get the adrenaline pumping. This morning that would be luge track racing
down the hillside in Rotarua.
A
short gondola ride takes you to the top of the hill where presumably on
a clear day you can get a lovely view of the Rotarua lake and
surrounding farming lands. Nay and I have been down the tracks at
Queenstown several weeks ago but only bought tickets for one ride down
the luge, after which it became clear why the slogan is "One ride is
never enough!". Rather sneakily the cost of buying a second go once your
up the top is five times more expensive so having learned our lesson we
bought tickets for 3 luge rides at the bottom before we caught the
gondola up.
We
donned our matching safety helmets to resemble a Ferrari pit team and
worked our way down the beginner slope first. The carts are brilliant
and controlled with handlebars that steer and allow you to brake down
the slope.
They're pretty nifty and can perform some excellent
overtaking moves. On our second and third runs we took a few videos to
share with you on the way down.
