Flipper & Co.

The town of Newcastle is predominately associated with shipping of mined materials, mostly coal, out from Australia. That’s it…nothing else to see here. What the half a million people that live here do I have absolutely no idea.

So we headed further up the coast, attracted by a place referred to as “The Dolphin Capital of Australia”, Port Nelson. Who doesn’t like dolphins?

Except for sharks I suppose who dolphin pods prey on, but then no one likes sharks anyway because they are way too hungry for man flesh all the time, so in my book I consider the dolphin as mans faithful guardian of the sea.

There are several tours you can go on which take you out into the sound to look for the group of over 160 resident dolphins in the area. A beautiful sunny day and got to see about 30 riding through the light surf and playing around our boat.

After that you’re expecting the trip to wind down a little but oh no. Out comes the water slide. From the top deck of the boat a 10 meter wiggly slide is lowered for kids, and adults who wished they’d never grown up, to plunge into the water.

Topped the evening off at New South Wales’ top award winning fish and chips Bubs, with a Barramundi and Chips for me and a seafood basket for Nay – lush.

We leave Sydney tomorrow after more than 1680 kilometers in our loyal Holden Epica exploring the area, gracefully dodging wildfires and flaming livestock on the way. We’ve spent so much time driving since we begun this travelling lark that when someone says something is just 100k’s away we consider that to be “just down the road”.

So what will recall about Sydney in the future I hear you ask? Well quite simple really. It was f**king hot!
