Wow. What a show.
We decided to spend the day down at the
famous Bondi Beach and avoid the large numbers of crowds piling into the city
during the day.
The beach is phenomenal. Crystal clear blue
water and beautiful hot sand. The waves were 3-4 feet and crashed right up
close to the shore which was great for people swimming about and provided the opportunity
to get some New Years Eve-Swim-Surfing in.
Around 3pm we caught the train back into
the city to be greeted by closed off streets and huge numbers of people everywhere.
We headed down to try and get close to the opera house but the area had been
fenced off with pre-paid ticket holders only allowed to cross. It was quite
cool seeing all the excited residents who lived in the expensive apartments
behind the fence coming down in their glittery hats and a little tipsy to
welcome in their guests for the evening through the wall of security guards.
We found a spot in amongst the crowds down
by the Contempory Art Gallery in the harbor from where we could see both the
bridge and Opera house.
And then we waited....and waited....and waited. Cramped on the floor with our knees up around our ears to rest our legs we waited for more than 5 hours.
But then it started - 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, BOOOOOM!!!
That looked amazing Dean, awesome fireworks. Are you using a gopro to video with as I have one and hoping it is as good as yours.
ReplyDeleteHi Tracey!
DeleteHappy New Year! We were lucky enough to get probably the last Gopro in Australia the afternoon of New Years Eve. Good job too because its an excellent camera and we've been getting some brilliant videos. Its absolutely fantastic underwater. There is also a supporting app that you can get for your i-pad/i-phone so that you can watch the camera live as its recording. This has been useful so we can make sure its pointing in the right direction :-)
We also bought a head strap the other day which is again a brilliant way to capture what your looking at.
Hope all is well in Sunny Nelson!
